Troop 17 hosted Webelos from area Packs this weekend at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in Green Bank, WV. Scouts learned about NRAO and the Green Bank Telescope (GBT), the largest steerable dish radio telescope in the world. Scouts then earned the Electronics merit badge, including numerous experiments involving the construction and experimentation with circuits to learn how electronic components like resistors, capacitors, diodes and transistors work. Each Scout then learned how to solder and built a circuit board using LEDs, transistors, resistors, capacitors and a power switch that blinked a series of LEDs.
We also camped under the stars and had a great time at night using telescopes to observe planets and stars, and also playing light-up frisbee, football and soccer.
